Community Support
In carrying out the mission of Blue Watch, we strive to build positive relations between the community and law enforcement. Much of this is done through the local church because we want officers seeing the church as a partner in building healthy communities.

Last month, we were honored to have a group of students from Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church volunteer time to help with our New Officer Initiative. They prepared packages that will be delivered to officers who will be graduating from the police academy. This initiative encourages new officers and helps them get their career off to a good start.

Law Enforcement Golf Tournament

Last month, Blue Watch was excited to be a part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run Golf Tournament for Special Olympics. This is an annual event was held at the Robert Trent Jones Trail Oxmoor Valley Golf Course and raises thousands of dollars to support Special Olympics.
A special thanks to Walter Williams who volunteered his time at our table. This was the first year for Blue Watch to be involved and we look forward to being involved in the years ahead.

World Police and Fire Games

Burke Swearingen recently had an opportunity to attend the 2023 World Police and Fire Games in Winnipeg, Canada. This bi-annual event brings together thousands of first responders from around the world, representing about 60 countries, to compete in sports and other games. These games are a great way to bring a community together and a way for our first responders to relax, compete and network with others from around the globe.

The purpose of the trip was to prepare for Birmingham hosting these games in summer 2025. Burke had the honor of being a part of the Alabama delegation. It is anticipated that this event will bring in 8,000 – 10,000 first responders plus their friends and family. All total close to 25,000 people from around the globe will be here to participate in and watch the games.
This is a tremendous opportunity for the city and state but is also a tremendous opportunity to reach thousands and let them know there is a loving God watching over them. Blue Watch is preparing now for this big event and praying for how the Lord wants to use us during this time. Please be in prayer for us and this incredible opportunity we have.

Officer Outreach
When officers experience trauma, Blue Watch wants to be a source of support. One way to show support is anytime there is an officer-involved shooting we send copies of “Winning a Gunfight” to the department in hopes it will be shared with the involved officers.
While most officers physically survive gun battles, it is not uncommon to experience emotional trauma which can, over time, lead to self-destructive behavior. Applying the principles taught in “Winning a Gunfight” can help and that is why we want to place this book in the hands of as many officers as possible.
Over the last few months Blue Watch sent copies to police departments in Gardendale and Wetumpka, and to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency where troopers have been involved in two separate shooting incidents in recent months. So far this year 14 departments have received copies.
If you would like your own copy, the information below tells you how you can receive a copy at no cost.
